Court records and legal documents concerning various debt collection actions signed by Fontaine Beckham, the mayor and county magistrate of Jefferson County, Va., (now West Virginia), or Israel Russell, in his capacity as justice of the peace. Both men were victims of John Brown's raid at Harper's Ferry. Fontaine Beckham was killed during the seige and Israel Russell was taken hostage.
